North Cyprus Speed Limits

The Speed limits in major cities in Northern Cyprus are usually about 100 kph/60mph on the Kyrenia, Nicosia & Famagusta highways, then 60 kph/40 mph on the smaller roads and 50 kph/30 mph in built-up areas, unless otherwise indicated. Drivers should watch out for road signs indicating speed limits for other areas and for traffic cameras.

Driving In North Cyprus

Driving in North Cyprus is very similar to driving the the UK; the roads are similar and are right-hand driven. Drivers and front seat passengers are required to wear seat belts while driving. And as general driving rule, when driving in Northern Cyprus, avoid alcohol, drinking or using telephones (unless hands-free). Also be aware that children under the age of 5 are not allowed to sit in front seats. In the major North Cyprus cities, rush hour generally occurs between 7:30am and 8:00am, 13:00pm and 13:30pm, 17:00pm and 18:00pm. So try to avoid traffic at these times to escape traffic jams.

Northern Cyprus Weather & Climate

With over 300 days of sunshine all year round, North Cyprus reflects an extreme Mediterranean climate with long, hot and dry summers, relatively cold and rainfalls between December and January. Summer on the island is typically a season of hot weather with high temperatures and clear blue cloudless sky. The most pleasant sea breeze at these times make the atmosphere in coastal areas such as Kyrenia, most very relaxing.

With temperatures reaching as high as 34°C to 40°C, the hottest months in summer are between mid-May and mid-September with an average of 11 hours uninterrupted sunshine daily. During this time, light clothing and dresses would suffice. On the other hand, the coldest months drop down to as low as 7°C to 15°C in winter. The winters are quite mild with some rains and occasional quick melting snow falls on the Kyrenia Mountain range, a stunning sight to behold. But even in winter, you would still enjoy up to 6 hours of sunshine during daytime. Light jackets and pullovers are recommended during winters in North Cyprus. So generally, the weather and climate conditions here in North Cyprus provides the visitors a truly pleasant holiday all year round.
