Last months event attracted 175 people and we are expecting more this month.

Car Hire Price Guide

Below is a price guide to the different vehicles we can get you and their various prices at different times of the year. Mountain View Hotel can accept payments for car rental services in cash or credit cards. Initial Payments are made when you return to car back to the hotel. If you would like to extend your rental period, you’d have to request for it then pay for it in advance. All prices are given bellow are in Great British Pounds (GBP) and include Value Added Tax (VAT).

All cars rented through the hotel are covered by Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance. The person who hires the car is responsible for the total cost of repair or replacement of the following items which are not covered by insurance: tyre punctures, tyre damage, wheel damage, lost wheel, trims, lost fuel caps, broken aerials, loss of any parts or tools, radio, lenses, mirrors and interior damages. Please request for a complete insurance policy at the hotel.

Car Hire Requirements

In order to rent a car, the renter should be at least 25 years old (in most cases) and should have a North Cyprus driver’s license valid for at least 2 years, or a valid international driver’s permit plus their country’s driver’s license that is valid for at least 2 years. Drivers are advised to always have their driver’s license on them when driving in order to avoid problems with the police.

North Cyprus Speed Limits

The Speed limits in major cities in Northern Cyprus are usually about 100 kph/60mph on the Kyrenia, Nicosia & Famagusta highways, then 60 kph/40 mph on the smaller roads and 50 kph/30 mph in built-up areas, unless otherwise indicated. Drivers should watch out for road signs indicating speed limits for other areas and for traffic cameras.

Driving In North Cyprus

Driving in North Cyprus is very similar to driving the the UK; the roads are similar and are right-hand driven. Drivers and front seat passengers are required to wear seat belts while driving. And as general driving rule, when driving in Northern Cyprus, avoid alcohol, drinking or using telephones (unless hands-free). Also be aware that children under the age of 5 are not allowed to sit in front seats. In the major North Cyprus cities, rush hour generally occurs between 7:30am and 8:00am, 13:00pm and 13:30pm, 17:00pm and 18:00pm. So try to avoid traffic at these times to escape traffic jams.

Getting around in North Cyprus

Upon your arrival in North Cyprus to begin your North Cyprus Holidays, Mountain View Hotel an arrange an airport transfer at your request, to pick you up from Larnaca airport or Ercan airport. For those who wish to get to Kyrenia by themselves, you can arrange an airport pickup yourself with the taxis or bus services. Airport taxis in Northern Cyprus usually run on fixed rates for airport pickups and transfers and can also arrange pickups from Larnaca airport to North Cyprus. There are also coaches that arrange airport pickups from both Larnaca and Ercan airports. Some taxis have websites through which you can book your airport transfers before hand, or better still, you can have us arrange the pickup for you. The average one-way taxi charge from Ercan Airport to Kyrenia is £20GBP and from Larnaca Airport to Kyrenia is £40GBP.

Once in North Cyprus, getting around is pretty easy as there are a couple of options for you to get around during your Holidays in North Cyprus. We can also provide you with local maps of Kyrenia and Cyprus to help you get around more easily, just ask at the front desk.

North Cyprus Taxis

Taxis are easy to find in North Cyprus. They are usually those Mercedes Benz you see in taxi stands at strategic locations; you can hardly miss them. Just like in most European cities, the taxis here in North Cyprus usually operate on a meter system or on a flat rate. The taxis in busy areas like the major cities do not have meters and run on an agreed flat rate.

North Cyprus ‘Dolmuş’

In North Cyprus, there is a special taxi service usually called “Dolmuş” (pronounced as DOLMUSH) where you share a taxi with other passengers. The dolmuş service would take you, as well as other passengers, to their respective destination. The dolmuş service is available in the cities like Kyrenia and Omorfo.

North Cyprus Bus Services

Buses in North Cyprus run usually during the day as from about 6am. They usually run between major cities but become less at nights as from 7pm and during the weekends. In cities like Kyrenia and Famagusta, bus services run till about 11pm at nights. Available buses range from mini 18-seater buses to larger 50-seater buses. The bus sizes vary from city to city because here in North Cyprus, different bus routs are run by different individual transport companies. For example, Ulusoy run from Nicosia to Omorpho and from Omorfo to Lefke, while Çimen Dolmuş runs from Omorfo to Kyrenia.

There are no set time tables for bus departures, but the buses usually depart on a 30 minutes interval or as soon the bus is filled up. The destination of a bus is usually indicated in large prints on a plate in front of the bus, usually it’s origin on the left and final destination on the right. There are general bus stops along the road sides but you can flag a bus to stop if you’re not close to any bus stops, or you can take an ‘oto stop’.

Oto Stop

‘Oto Stop’ is Turkish for “hitchhike”. In the friendliness of this beautiful island, North Cyprus people do give lifts and pick up hitchhikers along the roads. All you need do is place your hand out with a thumbs up, and someone may pick you up. People have hitchhiked around North Cyprus, from one major city to another and within cities. A tip for oto stop: a single person stands a better chance at being picked up than a group of people.

Most of the car hire companies can be found in the major cities, such as Kyrenia. Rental cars in North Cyprus have a distinctive red licence plates with 3 alphabets and 3 numbers (e.g; XYZ 123) and are usually marked by their logo stickers. All kinds of cars are available with most car hire companies, including left-hand drive or right-hand drive cars, or manual/auto transmission cars.
